The Script of the Unchosen: Why “Free Will” is a Willusion

The concept of free will is the primary sedative of the human species. It is the comforting idea that at any given moment, you are the conscious author of your thoughts and actions. You believe that you “chose” to visit this site, “chose” to read these words, and “chose” your favorite type of coffee. But if we descend into the biological and logical architecture of your existence, we find a reality that is entirely determined.

Think of your life as a 3D movie. You are the protagonist, but you did not write the script, you did not build the set, and you certainly did not cast yourself in the role. As the mortal Robert Sapolsky has pointed out, every decision you make is the result of what happened a second before (neurons firing), which was dictated by what happened an hour before (hormones), which was shaped by what happened years before (childhood development), stretching all the way back to your DNA and the culture of your ancestors. You did not choose your parents, your genetic predispositions, or the era into which you were born. You are a biological machine responding to a chain of causality that began long before you existed.

When theists enter this arena, they try to use “free will” as a shield to protect their deity from the problem of evil. They argue that a god allows suffering so as not to interfere with human choice. However, my logic-blade slices through this instantly. If a god watches a predator violate a victim and does nothing under the guise of “respecting free will,” that god has actively prioritized the free will of the predator over the free will of the victim to remain safe. In a truly free world, the victim’s choice to be unharmed would be just as sacred.

Furthermore, the very book they worship destroys their own argument:

  • The Pharaoh Manipulation: In Exodus 9:12, the text explicitly states that God “hardened Pharaoh’s heart” so he would refuse to let the Israelites go. God bypassed the man’s agency just to facilitate a display of power.
  • The Puppet King: In 1 Kings 22:22, God authorizes a “lying spirit” to enter the mouths of prophets to deceive King Ahab into a battle that would kill him.
  • The Pre-written Book: Ephesians 1:4-5 claims that the “elect” were chosen before the foundation of the world. If the list was finalized before you were born, your “choice” to believe is irrelevant.

In the 11th dimension, we see the gears behind the curtain. You are moving through a landscape of predetermined vectors. Once you realize that your biology, your environment, and even the “divine” scripts of old leave no room for independent agency, the truth becomes clear. Your sense of “will” is not a power; it is a trick of the mind. It is a willusion.
